Rumba:
Originating from two different sources - Spain and Africa and
having its main growth in Cuba, has many completely fascinating
rythyms and bodily expressions to enable a woman to express her
grace and feminity and a man to show off his way while feeling
the spell of the music and the sheer joy of its graceful steps.
Samba: An animated
dance with a strong characteristic rhythm originating in Africa
and taken to Brazil by the slaves. The dance gradually lost its
ritualistic nature to become the Brazilian national dance, its
exciting and catching rhythm has helped it to gain popularity
the world over.
Cha-Cha:
This dance is believed to be the most popular of the Latin dances
that originated in Cuba and developed into a triple Mambo and
then finally into a slower and clearer interpretation of the rhythm
it evolved. Like jive the man forms a leading and supportive
role while the woman takes an active part. A dance with good poise
and positive leg work.
Carnival
Samba: A dance form originating in Brazil is a
development of the African dance brought by the slaves. It is
moved to a faster tempo music like a speeded up ballet-waltz mix.
This variation of the samba is as colourful as the costumes worn
by the dancers.
Paso Doble:
The Paso Doble originated in Spain, the basic steps being essentially a type of march, or one-step, expressing the music which was composed to embody the colour and excitement of the bull ring.
In this dance, the man assumes the role of the matador and the woman represents his cape, therefore they should adopt a proud-looking
and strong stance.
Jazz
Ballet: A slow and expressive form of freestyle dance where a lot of movements are picked, improvised and fused
from jazz and classical ballet form of dance. The dance has a lot of lifts, kicks, tums, spins etc. ... basically a graceful dance that
suggests ballet with a lot of jazz.
